Johnston Canyon

I have been living in Calgary for more than five years now and I only managed to make it to Johnston canyon earlier this summer. How sad! For those that used to live under a rock like myself, the canyon can be found almost halfway between Banff and Lake Louise and it is the place to go in any season. There is also a resort where you can rent a little cottage if you are the romantic type but my wife is very scared of bears and that’s that.

Anyway, pretty good place to go and hone your photography skills but since it is a such a popular spot, you are bound to have a million other people already on the trails ahead of you. Still, there are various technics of removing ‘humanity’ from your images which is why I don’t usually care much about it.

Before reaching the canyon, the trip will take you onto the most amazing stretch of highway called Bow Valley Parkway and if you don’t care much about hiking, the landscape laid in front of you along with whatever animals you might see, will make the trip worthwhile.
